Oak sawn timber unedged
Gunreben supplies oak sawn timber for joineries, timber merchants, commercial processors, industry, and export. Various wood types, grades, and thicknesses are available – from unedged oak to oak squared timber.
For inquiries, please state the wood type, thickness, desired quantity, and grade. We will check the current availability in the sawn timber warehouse and coordinate the next steps with you.
Oak sawn timber at Gunreben
As a sawmill and parquet manufacturer combined, we process large quantities of oak – up to 20,000 solid cubic meters in a single-shift operation. Thanks to our correspondingly large drying capacities, we are able to supply both large quantities for export and specifically sorted grades for joinery workshops and the timber trade – from loosely sorted goods to log-bundled sawn timber.
The drying process begins gently in the open air. Depending on the wood species and thickness, the wood is stored there for between one and three years before being technically brought to the desired final moisture content in our drying kilns.
Measurement and sorting are carried out according to clearly defined guidelines. We are happy to provide detailed price lists and sorting descriptions upon request.
Oak boules, unedged
Our unedged oak is stocked as raw material with a natural live edge and is available in various wood species, grades, and thicknesses. The product is suitable for carpentry workshops, timber merchants, commercial processors, furniture making, staircase construction, interior design, and industrial further processing and wholesaling.
Please inquire in advance about your desired wood species, thickness, quantity, and grade. Our lumber warehouse will check the current availability and coordinate further steps with you.
Oak moldings
Mouldings are suitable for furniture making, interior finishing, staircase construction, and high-quality joinery work when narrower cross-sections and a select wood grain are required.
Oak narrow strips
Narrow strips of lumber are used for smaller cross-sections, precise components, and fine interior finishing or joinery work.
Oak furniture/staircase lumber
Furniture/stair-grade timber is intended for visible components where a suitable wood appearance and high-quality processing are the priority.
Knotted oak / fine-knotted oak
Knotty and fine-knotted grades highlight the natural character of oak and are suitable for lively furniture, stairs, tabletops, and visible workpieces.
Rustic oak / coarse-grained
Rustic oak is chosen when knots, color variations, and a distinctive wood grain are explicitly desired.
Oak sleepers
Sleepers are thicker cross-sections for heavy-duty applications.
Oak Sleepers II
Sleepers are thicker cross-sections for robust applications.

Frequently asked questions about oak lumber
In which quality and grading classes (e.g., A, B, rustic) is oak lumber available?
Oak sawn timber is available in several quality and grading classes depending on the version: unedged oak is categorized as, among others, strip wood (A/B), narrow strip wood (A/B), furniture/staircase wood (B), knotty/fine-knotted (B), and rustic/coarse-knotted (B/C). In addition, sleepers in B/C or sleepers II in C with a specified wormhole content are listed. Edged oak squared timber/cut-to-size is specified as sharp-edged, essentially sapwood-free, and unsorted; it is not suitable for load-bearing purposes according to DIN EN 14081.
How is the billing processed and how is the wood measured?
Billing at Gunreben is transparent and carried out in accordance with our current price list based on cubic meters (€ per m³).
Where exactly can I find the lumber yard at the Strullendorf site?
Our sawn timber warehouse is located at our main site in Strullendorf, but is slightly separated: you will find it directly on the other side of the street, diagonally opposite the main administration building and the large roller gate of the company premises.
Can I just drop by, or how does the purchasing process work at Gunreben?
Since wood is a natural product, we do not always have every specific grade, thickness, or quantity readily available in stock in unlimited amounts.
Our tip: Give us a quick call before your visit and tell us about your project and your requirements. This allows us to check what we have in stock. You can then select, load, and take away the right wood directly from our site.
What is the difference between edged and unedged sawn timber?
The difference lies in the processing of the longitudinal edges:
- Unedged sawn timber (boules): In this case, the tree trunk is simply cut into parallel boards or planks. The natural tree edge (including bark or wane) remains completely intact on the sides. Ideal for rustic furniture, tabletops, or projects where the natural growth is the focus.
- Edged sawn timber: With these boards, the irregular wane has already been cleanly cut off (edged) at the sawmill. You receive parallel, right-angled edges, which facilitates further processing and minimizes waste.
